What began as a repeatedly rejected film script has now found new life as a successful digital series, proving that persistence and creative vision can turn setbacks into triumph.
Director Dolly Dulu, known for celebrated works The Boy Foretold by the Stars and Love Beneath the Stars, initially faced disappointment when the screenplay Si Sol at Si Luna was passed over by multiple festivals, including the Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, where it made the top 16 but failed to secure final selection.
“Of course, I was saddened by the rejection,” Dulu said in an interview. “I believed in the script, so it was painful when it wasn’t chosen. At one point, I thought this might be the end for the project.”

Yet, what seemed like a dead end turned into an unexpected opportunity. Puregold Channel, recognizing the story’s potential, greenlit Si Sol at Si Luna as a weekly digital series, allowing the narrative to expand beyond its original cinematic constraints.
Originally conceived as a slow-burning film, the series underwent adjustments to fit episodic storytelling.
“We needed more conflict, more hooks to keep viewers engaged,” Dulu explained, adding that the expanded format also allowed deeper exploration of side characters.

The series follows Sol (Zaijan Jaranilla), a film student who documents love despite never having experienced it himself, and Luna (Jane Oineza), a grieving woman whose chance encounter with Sol leaves a lasting impact.
Dulu’s story and journey inspire new filmmakers.
“You have to give yourself time to grieve a rejection,” Dulu said. “But if you believe in your story, don’t give up. Sometimes, a ‘no’ just means there’s a better path.”

Puregold senior marketing manager Ivy Hayagan-Piedad noted the series’ strong reception. “The decision to adapt Si Sol at Si Luna into a digital series has proven successful, with viewers eagerly engaging and expressing how the story resonates with them.”
The series, now streaming on Puregold Channel’s YouTube, has drawn viewers with its heartfelt storytelling and striking visuals. The next episode, “New Management,” will see whether Sol gathers the courage to approach Luna—a moment fans are eagerly anticipating.
Dulu says the show’s success proves that good things come to those who wait. “What’s meant for you will find its way.”
