Rains triggered by ITCZ to prevail over Mindanao, Palawan

Rainy weather is expected to continue over Mindanao and Palawan on Thursday as the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) remains active in the region, according to the latest weather advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In a forecast bulletin issued at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, the state weather bureau warned of cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across several provinces in Mindanao and Palawan.

These rains may intensify at times, potentially leading to flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas, PAGASA warned.

Maguindanao del Sur in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has seen more rains in recent days attributed to the ITCZ, which resulted in severe flooding.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, driven by easterlies.

Although generally fair, the public is still advised to be on alert for sudden downpours that may trigger localized flooding or landslides, especially in low-lying or mountainous areas.
